What is mediation?

Mediation is a solution to a difficult situation with the help of an intermediary – mediator. A mediator is a trained professional who is responsible for managing the mediation process, for effective communication and, unlike other mediators, does not solve, evaluate or propose any solutions. He is ready to listen to both participants and to work with their emotions. He/she follows their difficult situation, point out the problems and present them as topics for common discussion and solution. The aim of mediation is to find new solutions to the situation; it is a process that focuses on the future.

As a rule, mediation takes place in several sessions to discuss problematic issues that need to be resolved to reach an agreement. Before the end of mediation, an effective and satisfactory solution is selected and entered into an agreement. The agreement can then form the basis for the court and its decision.
